It’s the last post before Christmas so I wanted to leave you with something special, a new little book – PEEKABOO! by the fabulous Ainsley Atkinson. As always it’s free to print at home or download as an e-book for tablets. Enjoy!

This is the first book I’ve illustrated in my new style and I’m really grateful to Ainsley for writing a really great story to help me through. For those of you following my month of PiBoIdMo, how do you think this doodle on day 25 turned out in the little book?

I want to view this story as:

Ainsley, the author tells me a little bit about how she started writing.

Writing has always been an important part of my everyday life – firstly, working in environmental research and then as a secondary Geography teacher. Now as a mother of three, I’ve started to write stories to entertain my sons and, I hope, other children.

What motivates you to write children stories?

  • To entertain my 4 year old twins and 1.5 year old.
  • The look of joy on my youngest son’s face as he carefully selects his story and brings it to me to read.
  • When I asked family and friends for suggestions of “going to hospital” stories to share with our sons, I was told I should write one myself. That is an important story yet to be written.

What inspired you to write this story?

Our 1.5 year old loves playing peekaboo and having his toys play it with him.

See you all in the new year!
